I have an Arcam AVR100 receiver and wish to connect my Sony Playstation 2 to the Optical input via a TOSLink. When I do this I get a high pitched whine through the front 2 stereo speakers. Using component audio is fine and if I link my DV88 dvd player to the AVR100 via the same TOSLink the noise is not there. Additionally I have tried my friends PS2 and got the same problem leading me to think that the amp is not faulty and that the PS2 is incompatible with teh Arcam AVR100.

    Has anyone experienced this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I have and as soon as I do i get the whine. Turn it off and it goers away but obviously I then get no digital sound to the amp. Very wierd. Arcam support have no clue as nether do Sevenoaks.

Sorry to butt into your post but i am just finishing my setup and was wondering if you can set up the playstation2 with just a coax digital lead, ie would stereo sound from games still come through the amp? (as well as all the other digital surround sounds. Or do i still have to use stereo phonos as well?. I hope you sort out your amp problem soon, and if i hear anything i will let you know....Paul

Yes you can just use the Optical link for everything. I was surprised by this but found that both Stereo and Pro-logic signals will be sent down the digital link.

    Hope this helps
