I have a top of the range Sony Plasma (PFM-510) which cost me a small fortune a few years back. I also have an original Yamaha S700? DVD player that has given up the ghost.

Good excuse to treat myself to a nice new DVD.

Am looking at Denon 2200 or 2900 but cannot tell if my Sony Plasma supports progressive scan. It is blessed with multiple inputs but I only use S-video at the moment. It has component input but it is a bnc connected setup. The spec in the manual says it has:

    RGB 0.714 Vp-p/non-composite, 1 Vp-p/composite, 75 ½ automatic termination, loop-through
    YUV 0.7 Vp-p/non-composite (U/V), 1 Vp-p/composite (Y), 75 ½ automatic termination, loop-through
    HD/COMP, VD H (or composite) sync, V sync, 1 - 5 Vp-p, high impedance, loop-through

Which means nothing much to me at all I am afraid. My amp supports 3 pin phono component out - is it worth spending the money on a PS DVD player ?

Oops - I think the BNC's are in fact RGB inputs. Does this rule out the use of progressive scan ?

The BNC component inputs can probably accept YPbPr (YUV) or RGB. I'd get a progressive scan dvd player, and a set of good quality RCA to BNC cables. I'd imagine that it would work with progressive scan dvd player but it may need some tweaking to get a good image as it will probably be optimised for PC use.

Got my HK DVD25 yesterday and it's fantastic. A noticable improvement over my tosh 220.

    Hornydragon,

Will I be able to use the Pal PS feature of the HK even though I will end up doing a component to RGB conversion ?

    Hornydragon,

The tch spec says that the current 5 BNC connectors support the following, is this true YUV ?

    RGB 0.714 Vp-p/non-composite, 1 Vp-p/composite, 75 ½ automatic termination, loop-through
    YUV 0.7 Vp-p/non-composite (U/V), 1 Vp-p/composite (Y), 75 ½ automatic termination, loop-through
    HD/COMP, VD H (or composite) sync, V sync, 1 - 5 Vp-p, high impedance, loop-through

Should be able to use the 5 BNC to get YUV then mate and if the screen will do prog scan use that.
System on 5 BNC seems very similar to the Fujitsu HHA/VHA

Sorted. Borrowed a friends Camb Audio prog scan DVD500 and a cable from Keene and I got a prog scan picture when I selected a combination of RGB1 & YUV on the input remote.

Picture looked a bit sharper but not sure the player was the best there is !!

Have ordered a Denon 2200 as I could with the SACD & DVD-A functionality.
