I may be wrong.. but if you want multy region on any of these you need to get a moded version.

as far as the tosh goes, playback of all the -'s fine. It can play back +'s, but it has to be the correct + media burnet the correct way so not really worth counting on.

    I swapped a Panasonic DMRE95 (V. similar to DMRE85) for a Sony RDR HX900
because I wasn't happy with picture quality. Panasonic is better for editing,
but Sony is much better picture. Panasonic does DVD-R & DVD-RAM. Sony does
    DVD+R/RW & DVD-R/RW.

rgbdirect.co.uk where I got mine did the Sony for £525 inc. delivery and it was a
multi-region. I am very pleased with it.

Also soundandvisiononline.com do good prices, but may charge more for multi-region.

The Sony does not have a divide function, so you can't take a large recording and chop it into multiple pieces (e.g. to split over multiple DVDs). Both the Panasonic and the Toshiba can do this.

Yes, this is the problem with the Sony. It didn't matter too much for me since I use
Sky+ and can easily transfer material in segments from Sky
