Hi All

Am seriously thinking about getting this player in the next couple of weeks, as I have always had Sony's for MP3 and have been very impressed with their sound quality.

I am aware of the issues surrounding volume on this player, and will be sending it back if it doesn't match up to my needs, but one thing I haven't been able to find out definitively is whether it will play back ATRAC files.

Does anyone out there have this player and if so, does it play back the proprietary Sony format?

Thanks in advance

Sadly you'll need the Japanese model for atrac.. I looked into importing one but was put off by the fact you are not able to change it to English lang :-(

Sony dropped Atrac as a format years ago. Anyone still using it probably have a legacy minidisc or MP3 walkman :p

As for the volume it will be fine if you use IEM. I have mine from 9-12 out of 30 on the volume bar depending on how "loud" the recording is via my Westone UM2. Coincidentally I have mine listed on the classified but it is only 16GB ver

Japanese models still use atrac, my ps3 can play atrac, its a shame they dropped it from rest of world players as its stopped me upgrading, the thought of having to re do all my cd's when my 808 dies is makin my head hurt ;-) ... I know I should have done them all in flac or what ever then converted but I was lazy :-(

Yeah, sorry it's got to be the 32GB version, my previous Walkman was a 16GB version and is now completely full.

Gutted to be honest about ATRAC, as I have most of my music stored as 320Kbs 'lossless' (just preferred the sound over MP3), so it looks like I will have to start again with my cds

As for the volume, I'm not too worried, as there were similar news stories about my previous Walkman and although I did take off the volume limit, I can't think of a single time I have ever had it even close to full volume (using my Sennheiser in-ear buds).

Thanks

Agree, I am dreading the day when I have got to put all those cds back on!

Good luck finding them all if you do upgrade!

One last question; will I be able to use the mains charger from my old NWA8000 Walkman?

I realise that the "proprietary" end won't be useable, but surely it will be okay to connect the male USB end of the new Walkman to it?

Can't see how there would be a problem with voltages etc, but does anyone know for sure

Thanks
