I currently have Rio Karma with Etys, but I'm a bit tired of this piece of scratched bulk.
Did anyone use Etys ER-4S (attn: S, not P) with HD-NW5 with removed volume cap? Is output power sufficent to drive them?

Well I use the HD3 with the Etymotic ER-6 (not ER-6i) and the volume is not really satisfying due to 48 ohm inpedance. Also with removed volume protection on my HD3 I'm not glad. Bass is nearly not available and the treble is much to high. I can't recomment the combination of HD3 and ER-6. My settings: BASS +3 TREBLE -1 !!! With Sony EX51LP my settings are BASS +2 TREBLE +2

Barely. It will work, but not as satisfactorily as onthe Karma. The iPod would be your best alternative (and the specs of the ER-4S gets around the infamous bass falloff).
