It doesnt rotate, only when you first switch it on. When you decide which way you want it to show, it is then stuck that way forever! :thumbsdow

I'm using all my engergy stirring up the situation in the cracks thread - won't somebody please report the matter along with copies of their ads to Trading Standards? Wouldn't it be nice to see Sony get a huge fine for this sort of blatant lying???

I mean - it is up to us whether we allow them to get away with this... Hopefully the HD5 will go down in their books as a very, very expensive lesson in many aspects...

The rotation feature on the HD5 has the only purpose to make users forget about the ugly thing that the HD5 is !

Have you actually seen one in real life or is this opinion based on the pictures you have seen??

I've actually seen one in real life. I was thinking about buying one until I saw it and played with it in the shop. After that experience I did not hesitate and bought the HD3.

Hmmm - okay... I used to think it was hideous on the pictures but I fell in love with the black one in the shop... the HD3 has a built in battery - I prefer removable.

It is also possible to change the HD3 battery. The Manual even explains how to do it.

not really, it explains how to remove the battery not replace it, its not designed to be replaced, i supposde you could try it but i wouldnt suggest it its not meant to be replaced like the hd5 battery.

What did the advert say about the rotating screen ? You'll have to excuse me as I've never seen it !
Edit, just followed a link from another thread here to the Sony site and I would have taken that ad as saying the display changes whilst the machine is switched on.

Same problem with the Vaio Pocket - I was on the phone to them and under no circumstances will they sell a battery to anybody - not even an authorised Sony dealer - it MUST be returned to Vaio's own technical department by courier and then the battery will be replaced all at a cost of £120 - nice hey?? They also explain how to remove the battery in the manual...

Oh and JohnG - just go to www.sony-style.co.uk, click on the HD5 and read the specs - it will say; "Its technologically-advanced 'follow turn' feature means the display is synchronised to your hand movements, flipping from horizontal to vertical depending on your every move. "

It is a blatant lie - according to the Oxford Dictionary 'synchronised' means 'at the same time', 'simultaneous' - and it simply doesn't do that...

If the Manual explains how to remove the battery it's because it can be replaced, otherwise they wouldnt put those instrucyions there ! It's obvious !

No its not! The manual explains how to remove the battery so you can safely dispose of both the player and the battery separately. It doesn't tell you how put in a new battery. And also it is not possible (to my knowledge) to get a new battery.

didn't realise the wording. That Sony can say its syncronised to your hand movement is funnny :)

Sorry but you are wrong, the manual explains how to remove it as it is a criminal offense to throw a battery in a bin in the Netherlands for example - it is NOT a user-serviceable part - call Sony - they will confirm it, I spent a long time on the phone arguing with them and trying to get them to sell me one... no go though...

If you want to replace the battery you have to send it it...

I'm glad you explained that Johann - never realised it was an offence in some countries to dispose of batteries in a bin.

Before you posted, I was thinking just who on earth would say to themselves, "Hmmm, my Sony HD3 has gone on the blink. I know, I'll just dig out the manual to see if I can safely remove the battery before chucking it in the bin". :rotfl:

    Well, it made me laugh......

The majority of the MP3 players does not have the option of sliding some switch and replace the battery, but that doesnt mean that the battery could not be replaced. The only difference, perhaps, is that the replacement can only be done by some authorized dealer.
But do remember that, as far as I know Sony, just dont expect to find those HD5 batteries so easy at the stores. I bet that if you would want one, you are going to have an incredibly hard time to find it (and perhaps the only solution is to go to some authorized dealer to replace it) !

And if you want to replace the HD5 battery, are you going to have it for free or do you have to pay it ?!

The battery will cost 30 - 40 GBP and according to Sony's website it will be available from all Sony dealers - just like their CyberShot batteries - much cheaper than to replace your iPod or Vaio Pocket batteries which are both in the region of 100 GBP... :)
