I've got a pair of Sony MDR-HW700DS on route. As I understand it, they are excellent, but the audio processor box is limited to HDMI 1.4.
Optical is an option, but I am trying to avoid to retain best audio options.
Therefore, I need to get creative to get the most out if my devices.
Fortunately, I think I've got a work around. Is this the best way to set it all up?
TV: LG Oled E7
4k Blu Ray: Panasonic UB820
HD DVD Player: Toshiba EP30
Console: Xbox Series X
TV Box: BT TV box / Youview
Set up is planned to be this:
LG Oled E7
HDMI 1: Arc to Sony Headphone processor
Why: I can use native TV apps, retaining 4K/HDR/DV. Audio can be through TV or headphones via Arc.
HDMI 2: Connected to Panasonic UB820 Audio/Video port
Why: I can retain 4K/HDR/DV. And HQ digital audio via built-in TV "soundbar" (e.g Dolby Atmos)
HDMI 3: Xbox Series X
Why: I can retain 4K/HDR/DV. And HQ digital audio via built-in "soundbar" (e.g Dolby Atmos)
Note: I've got a pair of Arctis 9X I use for gaming. So won't use the Sony headphones.
Sony MDR-HW700DS Processor Box
HDMI Out: Connected to HDMI 1 on TV.
Why: As per above. Use native Netflix, Amazon, D+ Apps. Retain 4k/HDR/DV. But can use audio from TV or from headphones via Arc.
HDMI 1: Panasonic UB820 AUDIO Only
Why: Video/Audio is going direct to TV, retains 4K/HDR/DV. Audio can go via TV or Headphones.
HDMI 2: Toshiba EP30 HD DVD Player.
Why: 1080p only. Not limited by HDMI 1.4. Audio via TV (arc) or headphones.
HDMI 3: BT TV Youview box
Why: Why: 1080p only. Not limited by HDMI 1.4. Audio via TV (arc) or headphones.
Will this work? Is there an alternative set up that is best?
Thanks for reading and your support - I'll be trying everything when the headphones arrive in a couple of days.
