Just had my KV-60SX300 delivered last Friday. Although I had a Sony 41" widescreen for the past 9 years, compared to it, the 60" looks absolutely massive.

At first -straight out of the box- I was not very impressed with picture quality, but I thought I let it run-in for a bit and then start making adjustments. A couple of days later and after some adjustments to the picture settings - WOW - absolutely stunning.

The only drawback I find is that (in a fully dark room) black is not really true black - more like dark grey. Is there any adjustment that can be made or is this really a drawback of rear projection LCD's?

    Thanks and best regards

    Well you said it!
That's one grey area with your set and mine (I've got the KF42sx300); blacks are not really black but nearer "dark grey"! Have some lighting behind the TV, and this will create an optical illusion that fools your eyes into thinking that the greys actually look blacker ;)
I use an image scaler with my TV, and the improvement in PQ is amazing!

    Emilios,

question: did you hook up an xbox to the 60sx300? Im thinking about buying this same tv, but am worried about the fact that lcd screens could have ghosting/lagging when fast games are played.

    any news?

    Fer,

yes, I have and as with all video/dvd/sat/cable programs, there is absolutely no ghosting/lagging or indeed any artefacts to the picture (which I find simply amazing) at all.

BTW, picture quality really improves with time - since the first couple of days of use.

    Best regards

i've also got the 42" variety and have been pleased with the PQ. The black thing is a nuisance to begin with but you soon forget about it and are left with a great tv :) I watched the Day after Tomorrow on it yesterday and it looked stunning.

I still wanna find out how to get into service mode though, what's the fun of having a tv if you can't play with it?

    Marc,

I usually avoid doing something I don't know enough about - after entering service mode on my previous rear-projection tv and in the end I had to put in its box, take down the stairs and transport almost 40 miles to the nearest Sony service centre, and paid almost £250 to have properly checked and re-calibrated - so a big NO-GO area for me - I will leave it to the pros!

    Best regards

    Emilios,

I have just ordered the KF60sx300 from Robert Whyte Ltd and it is being delivered on Wednesday, can't wait, I have been looking for ages and decided what the hell you're only here once so you might as well enjoy yourself!

My only reservation is that the TV maybe too big (if that's possible) for my lounge, I will probably be sitting approx 12 to 15 feet from the screen, do you lose picture quality the closer you sit? my sister has the 57" Toshiba rear projection set which the closer you sit to it or move to the side the picture becomes un-watchable.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

    7up4it,

I would say logically picture should improve the further you sit from it as any irregularity /pixels /grain will (should) not be visible, the owner's manual states 2.2 meters as a minimum viewing distance -against 1.8m for the 50". Being a rear projector it has its limitations as to how much to the side one viewer sits (manual states up to 65 degrees either side of the screen as the optimum horizontal viewing position). However to be quite frank, the picture quality is among the best I have ever seen - images from my RGB-connected DVD player are simply awesome -even if I sit only two feet away! - it really is that good!

Regarding its size, I also felt it was too big when it was delivered and taken out of its box, however two weeks on not only did I get used to it but it feels just right.

    Best regards

and keep us updated of your progress

    Luke (can I call U Luke? :D ),

One of the few vices I have , if U can call it that, is my gaming/movie experience when I am on leave; that means that after ca 2 months of hard work, I get to spend 1 month as a couch potato :zonked: ....

I therefor am willing to spend (almost) any amount of grievance or whatever to improve on that experience.

for example, am now working in Trinidad (west indies) and am seriously considering hopping over to the US of A to get a look at some telly's there.

I would never buy em there , due to logistics for breakdowns....But england is a 1 hr flight, or 9 hrs drive and yeah, I'm willing to spend that....
:rotfl: for an additional 32 inches of telly.... :rotfl:

    Fer

    ps
and I keep seeing amazing reviews and specs on this rd65, am only worried about 3 things:

    - effect of rainbow (apparently issue with dlp, only not with more than 4 colorwheels (or so I understand) and this one seems to have 5...
    - can the dlp handle the specs of my xbox games (ie refresh rate sufficient)
    - what to do when I buy in england and I have a breakdown?

I dont think rainbows will be a problem on a RPTV, as the image is between you and the wheel. Only on front screen pj where you are between wheel and screen it is seen.

Cant answer the xbox thing, try the gaming forum

You should be fine... but ask you uk dealer if you have a European warrenty.

    thank you YODA :D

    Hi Emilios,

Absolutely gutted, TV arrived today and it doesn't work! no picture, no sound!
I was going to surprise my kids as well...............
I will be getting in touch with Robert Whyte Ltd first thing tomorrow and be asking for them to replace it.
I think it's poor that it cost me £89.00 for delivery and was delivered by a lone driver (no mate to help him lift it!) had my missus been in and not me when it arrived there would be no way that she could have helped him to off load it from the vehicle and carry it into the house (2 items 140kgs)
It was supposed to be on a pallet and it wasn't?
I will be making my feelings known to Robert Whyte Ltd tomorrow for sure.
I suppose it will be a week or two before it will be collected & exchanged?
    Anyone else had similar problems?
I'm sure judging by other peoples dealings with Robert Whyte Ltd (that have been posted on this forum) that I won't have any problems when exchanging the TV.

Hi mate, sorry to hear about your disappointment!
You should not have any problems with Robert Whyte. Ask for Ann-Marie when you call she's a very helpful lady.
I had a scare when my TV arrived - I turned it on, went away for about 30mins to do something else; it had gone into standby when I came back and it refused to go back on again! After a bit of a panic, I removed the plug from the socket, reconnected it after a few mins, and it's been working perfectly ever since!
Hope you find a solution to your problem.
    Good luck,

    Wale

Sorry to hear about your problem 7up4it.

Does the TV have power (red/green light on) or absolutely nothing at all - it could be as simple as a fuse - however I fully understand your disappointment-especially considering all the anticipation of receiving it. I would believe that there should be no problem in exchanging a faulty TV-especially from a reputable retailer.

Best of luck and let us know what happens

    Hi Emilios,

Yes there is power to the TV, the top green light is illuminated and when you press the remote (or buttons on the side) the red light below flashes but nothing happens?

I have checked the lamp which is intact, so this has to be ruled out.

I have tried the TV with NTL cable box, DVD player, & normal aerial all to no avail!

    Really, really unhappy....................

I will let you know what RW Ltd say.

    Kind regards

    John

    Hi Emilios/himpressive,

I have just spoken to Ann-Marie @ Robert Whyte Ltd and she couldn't have been more helpful, excellent follow up service (I hope) she has agreed to exchange the TV tomorrow (I have arranged the transport myself) for a new one and she will also have the new one tested at the warehouse before it's collected. She has even given me the Storespersons mobile number in case the driver is delayed, they have also agreed to keep the warehouse open until 14:30pm (normally closes at 13:00).
So fingers crossed I should be watching my new "huge" TV tomorrow night!

They say "talk is cheap" so I will let you know if they fulfil their promise to do everything right to help, trust me you will know if they don't!

    Kind regards

    Hi,

A huge big thank you to Ann-Marie @ Robert Whyte Ltd, I had problems with a Sony KF60SX300 that was delivered earlier this week, rang Ann-Marie and she arranged for a replacement TV to be ready to exchange which it was earlier today. She was true to her word, it was ready as promised.
If anyone is considering purchasing equipment from Robert Whyte I would say don't hesitate as their service is excellent, sometimes when you have parted with your money suppliers don't want to know, this is not the case with RW they did everything they could to rectify the problem as soon as they could.

I must say I am delighted with the TV, it's "huge" the picture quality is excellent and absolutley stunning to look at!

If you are thinking about buying one of these TV's I would highly recommend them whatever size you choose.

    Hi Cool-hand,

Why are you confused? did I not make myself clear to you?

Please allow myself to explain again in a simpler manner, first TV was delivered and it didn't work (I believe it was damaged in transit - unfortunately this does happen which is beyond R.Whytes control) second TV was delivered 2 days later and it did work, simple as that - R.Whyte Ltd were very helpful in arranging this for me which is the least you should expect when spending over £3500.00 but don't always receive!

    cheers

    John
