Hi all could anyone help please i have had the above set now for 5 years and today we heard an electrical snap type noise followed by screen going magenta then dark purply blue then pale green/yellow.
It has left the screen with a yellow/green fog but underneath colours are visable ie blue, yellow, white etc but picture is obviously not watchable.
Reading through the threads here i think it's a lamp problem but if anyone could give me any advice ie cost of repair is it worth repairing etc i would really appreciate it.

    Thanks NML:(

I have also had one of these sets for about 5 years.
When it was about 18 months old the blue lamp failed prematurely, I contacted Sony who aggreed to supply the replacement parts through my repair shop.
The cost of the lamp was £170 at the time plus £70 labour which I had to pay.

Your fault does sound quite major and maybe not worth the repair cost.

( my fault only shifted the blue image, red and green were still fine).

Last year the power supply failed costing me another £250 :( I have decided not to spend any more on repairs, and will replace it with a dlp rear or maybe a LCD screen when it eventually gives up the ghost.

    Good Luck

The power supply in mine went pop after 13 months, I had purchased it from John Lewis and it was repaired.

The set has been fine since and is now 6 years old, I am waiting for it to break so that I can justify replacing it.

I asked the repair guy what was wrong, he stated it was the power supply and is very common with Sony TV's.
