Sony KDLS40A12U & NGC RGB 60Hz picture problems

Is anyone else having this problem?

When I connect my PAL Gamecube (bought on the cube's launch) to my Sony KDLS40A12U using an RGB scart cable and select 60Hz mode on a game then the display flickers and a ghost image of part of the top of the screen overlays on the image on the bottom of the screen. If I then choose a different AV-channel and then go back to the gamecube AV channel the image is on the right hand side of the screen and the colours are off, like the red is not displaying properly. 50Hz displays nice and crisp without a problem.

I've tried replacing the RGB cable I got from Lik-sang with an official Nintendo one and while it got rid of the chickenwire effect on the picture I'm still having the 60Hz issue.

Weirdly when I use a composite cable with a scart adaptor 60Hz displays okay though the picture looks horrible.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.
