Sony KDL32V4000 - Help With Settings

Anyone have any suggestions for picture and sound settings? Picture seems OK most of the time but sound can appear very echo-ey and a bit tinney no matter what I try. The volume level seems to fluctuate as well and thats when I have AVL set to off and even when it's on.

Anyone post their options for the picture settings and sound settings? Thanks!

I tend to use BBE VIVA sound mode more than the others. The sound does sound a little tinny at times though, probably not one of the TV's best features. If the volume mix seems a bit off with too quiet speech etc, I switch back to standard or dynamic which seems to fix it. Auto Volume has to be off when playing muisic, I played some the other day with AV on and the sound kept dipping when the vocals kicked in.

Still settling on picture settings but at the moment, for SD viewing I use Standard, BL 4, Contrast 85, Brightness 50, Colour 52, Sharpness 9, Colour tone neutral, Noise Reduction Auto. Seems to give a nice image but not sure if I prefer warm or neutral tone.

For DVDs and BR usually use something close to the TV's default cinema mode (pressing the orange button on remote). Sometimes changing from warm to neutral colour tone though, depending on how the film looks.

Would be interested to hear others settings. Also I'm not sure about the Backlight, do other people keep it at one level or change it from daytime to night time viewing?.

My settings which were based on another thread is:

Brightness 50
Colour 50
Sharpness Min
Colour Tone Warm
Noise Reduction Low
Adv Contrast Enhancer Off

I use the BBE ViVA sound setting.

Perfect, I've got it looking good now. At least whoever is sitting in the chair closest to the TV can watch SD material without the dreaded mosaic squares everywhere. I bet football on ITV still looks horrible though!

OK, last question I hope someone can help me with. What exactly is the slot at the side for? Is it a CAM slot for TopUp TV or is it just a PC card slot? What can be done with it basically.

If I buy a Viacess MPEG-4 CAM will I be able to use it in the slot and receive the current ROI DTT service which is in MPEG-4? (I can receive the channels currently but only get sound thanks to the MPEG-2 DTT tuner in the set).

Thanks for your help everyone!

I was going to ask a similar question. The above settings look great on freeview but is a bit dark when it comes to the xbox through HDMI

It might be that you're using 'expanded' in the Xbox 360 Reference Level setting. If so, change it to 'standard'. I also use 'RGB' in HDMI Colour Space as I only play games on my 360.

Am I right in thinking that i'd aquire a better picture even still by purchasing a seperate freeview box as oppose to using the Sony built in freeview?

It has got Picture in Picture but only with something connected to the PC input - so you can watch TV and PC but not TV and TV.

Hi everyone, read all your comments with interest, don't have HD yet, just bought KDL-40V4000 for £599 at M&S. Can you recommend settings for standard definition? sorry if this has been asked before but i am new to this and any help would be appreciated.

Cheers:lease:

I got my 32V4000 on Friday. I've got a couple of questions.

When watching SSN I have noticed that when returning from an ad break the screen resets itself to 4:3, personally I prefer widescreen. Is there any way to prevent the system reseting itself?

What are the recommended settings when watching football?

Finally, I have noticed a small nail size area of the screen that seems to have a little 'ghosting' most noticeable with colours such as yellow or green, however this is towards the middle of the screen. What causes this? Is it anything to worry about?

Overall, for my budget I'm pleased with my TV, much better than the Mod Comment: Do not edit out mod comments 26" LCD I had before.

Hi,

Try this:

Open the MENU and go down to the Features section. Inside Features, go to Screen and change the settings so that Auto Format is Off and Screen Format is Wide.

Hope this helps you,

Matt
