    Hi,

First ever posting on AVForums so please forgive me if this has already been answered.

Santa brought me a 40W2000 LCD and a STR-DA1200ES AV Receiver, all nice and sexy looking, however I've just got round to setting it up and I can't get the AV Receiver to show the menu options on the 40W2000.

    My cable setup is:-

One HDMI cable from the AV Receiver (HDMI Monitor Out) to 40W2000 (HDMI Input).

I've spoken to Sony help desk and they assure me I need to also use the component video monitor out cable (3 coloured cable), but I though HDMI did both video and audio, what am I doing wrong?

Does anyone else have this setup, help please!!!

I don't own the same amp as you but I suspect that the menu screens are only generated on the component outputs - my Yamaha does this and its a pain having to change leads to see the menu screens.

    Hi Chris,

Many thanks for the info, I've just received a reply from Sony and they state I need to connect both the HDMI cable and the Component Video Monitor Out cable, therefore what is the point of the HDMI Monitor Out connection as it does not seem to use it?

    Am I missing something?

yeah the Sony has a few quirks like this it is a fairly decent amp

the HDMI stuff on this amp is for HDMI switching ony, not audio processing.

and as stated in the manual you can't convert component input signals to HDMI and vice versa.

    Hope that helps
