Make sure you have Auto selected in the menu's

Smart Mode half streches and half zooms the picture, you can then move the picture about using the up and down arrows on the remote.

    Cheers

what is the contrast ratio on this tv? and how does the set compare to the sammy splh7?.. contrast, lumen output for daytime viewing, connectivity etc?

finally I dont notice rainbows unless I watch black and white stuff in the dark like sin city, so please no silly rainbow remarks or ill go fetch rod jayne and zippy!

lastly what is the motion threshold on it like?.. example pro evo5 pc ver is a good test at 720p, oh and dare I say it black levels versus the sammy, is it worth the switch or should I wait for the new dlp's next year..phew cheers!

The Sony has excellent contrast, have a look at the settings thread and you will see most people set the contrast below 50% for home viewing.
Motion blurring shouldn't be an issue, I enjoy motorsport and even very fast moving backgrounds are not a problem. It's certainly better than the oil painting effect that is visible on some DLP's.

Comparing the Sony against the Samsung "7", the Sammy does blacks better and the picture is sharper but the "7" does have a list price that is over £1000 more than the Sony.
Compare the Sony against the Samsung "6" models evens things up. The Sony has a slightly more vibrant picture and picks out colours better but the Samsung does dark detail better. All IMO of course.
The Sony isn't bad at blacks, it's better than any direct view LCD or Plasma I've seen, although I've not had a look at the new Pioneers, it's just not quite as good as the best DLP's.

    Cheers
    Lee
