Is this telly being discontinued now? I tried to buy from one place but they have it marked up as discontinued. 2 others have it as out of stock..

I was hoping to get this sony aswell but my options are running thin.

Yes, this TV is being discontinued and being replaced in the next few months.
Have you tried Argos and AVWOW.com.

Still loads about . Try Comet , John Lewis or Sony Centre . The Sony Centre where I bought mine denied that it was being discontinued . I dunno if it was a ploy to reassure me or just ignorance on their part . After saying I wanted the corner stand , they sprung the old " we`ve got the last one in the country " chestnut . Queue me producing a sheaf of printouts with the set on the old stand at prices that put them to shame .

Why did I buy from them after that nonsense ? - They were the nearest and gave a 3yr guarantee inc. the bulb .

A couple more online retailers selling the Sony are-

    cheapelectricals.co.uk - £841.98
prcdirect.co.uk - £799.95 (but you have to collect from their Essex or London stores).

Keep looking there're still out there!!!!

What was the total price from the Sony Centre including the 3yr guarantee ?

And does the guarantee DEFINITELY cover the lamp as well ? !

Such an assurance is not worth the paper it's written on. Whereas a written statement to this effect may be...... NEVER take a salesman's word for anything, unless he can show you the explicit words, or he's prepared to get his Manager to commit to paper.

True, I gather the bulb is classed as a consumable and so its rarely covered by any warranties ..... ??

Why not John lewis? £965 through quidco, 5 year warranty and delivered? You've paid WELL above the odds to be honest, you could have got an xbox 360 with the difference!

Because my nearest JL is 3 hrs drive away . They would not deliver for free so £965 would become the thick end of £1100 and no installation . Personally , I placed a higher value on a 3yr Sony Centre warranty than a 5yr JL one and the salesman told me they would attend to any problem I might have and replace my set with a similar one if it needed to be taken away .

If you live miles from anywhere in the country , such a comprehensive warranty with people I can pick up the phone and speak to is important . I have still paid less than a lot of people did a few months ago but I bet , having got the set up and running , they don`t grudge a penny of it :) .

True, sometimes cheapest is not the best ..... however most of the time it is !!

Can you get the online Quidco discount if JL have price-matched another store ??

I am still getting the Sony..woohoo!!

.....BUT, I've gotta wait till the end of the month approx for delivery. :(

Everytime I've gone to tescos since ordering I've taken a detour upstairs to check out the telly. SAD I know.
