Well the New Sony certainly has caused a bit of a stir being sold out everywhere for quite a while.

After viewing the SamsungL7 and the SONY KDFE50A12U ive decided to go for the sony. Love the size and shape of the screen. Picturing Project gothem 3 on it almost made me weep :)

Problem is ive only seen it on a rubish rf feed at comet. :thumbsdow This was hopefully nothing to go by. Ive heard via the ofrums the quality will be good with HD and Upscalers.

So if youve got a SONY KDFE50A12U and you wanna show it off why not post some pics here. Id love to see it in action with some decent feeds.

And by the way, amazing forum. I would of ended up buying blind if i hadnt found this mountain of information. Thanks

Yeah Sky fits fine. The only reason it's in 4:3 there is because The Simpsons is made in ye olde aspect ratio.

excellent, cant wait till next week now. No game console till the 360 but hey its worth the wait.

If i play the Wmv Hd ive downloaded on my laptop and use the Vga output, will i get hd on the tv? I know it wont be the best but will it be impressive?

I also saw the 40" Sonly LCD with a hd setup and it looked out of this world, but no more that 50" will do now :)

I plan on hooking my PC up to the TV as well via DVI and yes I do expect it to look great. Even the HD stuff I have looks great on my 17" CTX TFT Monitor. Don't forget to connect up the sound if you need it.

Has anyone else used their PC to view Hi Def on this Sony?

yeh ive watched the wmv files on my 17" Sony Lcd Black laptop and they look great. But on a complately blue screen, i.e dolpins hd demo it looks blocky. like it cant get all the different blues. Will it do this on my tv or is this just my laptop monitor?

Just watched Star Wars Episode 111, Revenge Of The Sith.
Arrived this morning from Play.

Absolutely stunning at an unpscaled 720P. :D

The photo's are done on a cheap camera and jpeg'ed to death to get the size down but I hope you get the idea.

So you got the Denon hooked up Via Hdmi ?? Then youd hook your Pc up via the Dvmi connection. Xbox 360 via component,

Bute then what will Sky HD go into, are we gonna have to get multi hdmi things?? :) thanks

As far as I know you can get HDMI switches which you basically plug all your HDMI connections into. The problem is, I think they are around £100!

Those images look stunning even if they are jpeg'd to death! I'd love to get a DVD HD Upscale player. Are they that much better?

I think the biggest difference is the HDMI not the upscaler. If I set the HDMI output to 575P and compare it with the 575P output from the component connections the HDMI feed picks up more detail and is a sharper picture.
At this the Sony 50A12 is doing the upscaling to 720P on both inputs.

If I turn the Denon's HDMI output to 720P there is only a slight improvement in picture quality which probably suggests the Denon is a little better at upscaleing a 575P picture to 720P than the Sony TV.

So I think the biggest gain is from doing away with the Digital>Analogue>Digital conversion and doing a straight digital HDMI connection.

    Cheers

so i need to fiind a Dvd player with a hdmi connection? Also most my dvds are backups. Ill always get rid of extras etc to make the main movie 100% quality. Even though i do this will the larger screen maybe enhance its a copy? Im using dvd shrink at the moment.

HDMi DVD players are not that expensive now.

£80 for the Toshiba 350, £100 for the Samsung 950 or £200 for the Denon 1920.

I've never seen a copy that is as good as the original so don't bother with them myself. :)

In 'WHAT HI-FI' magazine the Toshiba 350 got 5 stars ad the desription reads 'sensational DVD player, worth every penny, and more. in fact, all the Toshiba DVD players got 5 stars with the 150E at £50 winning the group test that included players worth up to £400. No reviews on the other ones mentioned I'm afraid.

I thought a copy of a DVD would be 100% perfect due to it being a fully digital transfer???

Man, I'm now salivating at the the thought of my one being delivered! I'll be using componant out through my Pio 575a so I take it the Sony won't upscale the images to 720p? I must also remember to try the dvd settings as interlaced and progressive to compare the 2 of them...

The Sony converts incoming signals to 720 so the picture fits the screen resolution.

If the Sony is fed a 720P picture then it doesn't have to do the upscaling itself.

It's always a bit of a toss up which is going to up scale better the TV or the DVD. Probably why the HDMI feeds at 575P and 720P don't look that different, all you are viewing is the difference between the DVD's upscaling and the TV's upscaling.
There is a fair difference between HDMI and Component on my setup, probably due to the removal of the digital to analogue to digital conversion.

    Cheers

PGR3 looks gob-smackingly beautiful. Dead or Alive also looks gorgeous. There's a Western type game coming out called 'GUN' I think which looks nuts too! I'd say we won't be stuck for games on the XBOX360 come release day.
