Hello. I was hopeing that someone could help me with this, i am considering buying a 42" sony 3lcd tv KDFE42A12 as a replacement for my old sagem hd45s dlp which broke down.

    1. Is the sonys performance as good as the sagem (which i thought was fantastic)
    2. Is there a danger of screen burn on 3lcds.

I'm actually gutted that the sagem broke down as i was over the moon with it, mastercare said they couldnt fix it so i had to get a voucer from currys which limits my choice a little, i'd had the set just under 3 months when it packed in, does anyone know if i was entitled to a refund as the store said i wasn't????

    Any help greatly appreciated
    Neville

I'm guessing here but I doubt the contrast ratio of the LCD model will come anywhere close to the 3000:1 on offer from the Sagem.

Why can't you get another Sagem?

As far as I am concerned, if they cannot replace it with the same model and they cannot repair it then I feel they should give you your money back. You paid for a Sagem, not a choice between 3 sets that you don't actually want... The sale of goods act states that a piece of equipment should be of 'merchantable quality'. If it broke inside 3 months, you could reasonably argue that it was faulty at point of sale, therefore a refund should be offered as it is there fault that they cannot repair it or replace it...

Contact Citizen's Advice or Trading Standards and explain the situation. And then be prepared to go back and stamp your feet as I'm sure they will agree that Currys are not really playing the game on this one. Your biggest difficulty is that you seem to have already accepted the voucher they offered which probably isn't going to help your hand of cards here.

I saw the 44' LG today being fed a high def feed and it looked really good.
I wonder what the reviewers didn't like about it.

1: Many people here are more than happy with their 50 inch Sony's and the 42 is the same thing inside.
2: No, 3LCD does not screen burn.

Oh, and, yes - you should have demanded a full refund. That's still worth a try.

if you only bought the TV 3 months ago, you are completely entitled to a refund unless you put your foot through it? if it has mechanically broken down you must get a refund!!where did you get it from? have you phoned the C.A.B. ?

To be honest im not that concerned about a refund, i need a tv. I dont know about anyone else but i think that its absolutely impossible to reveiw performance in the stores(any of them), i base this upon the fact that the sagem looks crap in all the stores but i know from experience that its an amazing performer.

Im going to chose the 42" sony and am just hoping that someone can reassure me that the pics as good as the sagem DLP.

    Thnaks

The picture quality can be outstanding given a good feed.
You may notice slightly less dark black levels though on larger areas of shadow. This used to really annoy me but have now 'got used to it'.
Apart from that, IMHO it's a terrific set.
BTW I've got the 50" version but, apart from size, it's identical.

@ nevtra There's no need to ask the same question (more or less) in more than one thread. I've merged your two threads together.

I can't find any threads for the 42" set?, just one and the guy meant to say 50".

Also im looking for comparisons in brightness and contrast as i loved the way the sagem dlp gave brilliant whites and am concerned that the sony wont match the bright white performance of the Sagem.

There must be someone out there with experience of both.....is there?

Thanks for taking the time to look anyway...

The innards of the 42 are identical to those of the 50. So you can review peoples' views about the 50 and apply those views to your proposed 42.

hey all, cant remember who started this thread but its addressed to him the guy looking at the 42 sony. I think u have the pre buy panick on mate, i remember gettin mine , just back from uni , no cash but saw this and for the price thought wow. i originally looked at the 50 but it was too big for my room, the 42 is still a big tv. It has great general brightness and vitality, colours are vibrant and i have only cheap leads hoking it up to my jvc ths66 surround. I could not afford the stand but hopefully soon i will. ITs the same as the 50 all round. on my 360 it looks amazing, and i mean amazing. watched the machinist last night which has a good PQ and is a dark film , tone wize, i set my iris to hi so it makes the black levels look a bit deeper, other than then its an awsome tv. just go and get it , u wont be dissapointed.

    Spooksta,

This thread is old, the Sagem HD-D50H G4 T is now £999 from Comet, you won't get a better bargain this summer. This TV has won lots of awards and is cheaper than every other rear pro.

Not cheaper than the Sony if you factor in the stand and 5 yrs warantee.
