So after deciding my dream plasma must wait until our two year old is... well older... we've plumped for a more robust Sony KD32DX40 IDTV, with it's one RGB input. Oh well!
Can anyone please give me the best way to connect the following kit together? I need to operate the TV on it's own most of the time, with only occassional home cinema sound through the receiver:-

    Grundig SKY Digibox
    Sony 725 DVD player
    Sony Nicam VCR
    Sony STR930 AV receiver

Any help in respect of how to make the most of one RGB input is very much appreciated!!!

    Thanks
    Carl

Does the 725 DVD player handle RGB loop-through?

If so then run scart from the Sky box to the DVD player and then from the DVD player to the TV. This will send RGB from Sky when not using the DVD player, and from the DVD player when it's on.

Meanwhile run the VCR to AV2 or 3 as it'll be composite anyway and won't need RGB.

If your DVD doesn't handle loop-through then you'll need to buy an RGB capable switching box. www.beyondhifi.net have a manual one for around £8 I believe.

If the 725 doesn't pass RGB either put the Sky box on AV2 as composite or use a Scart switch

How can I tell if the Sony DVPS725 loops RGB?
It has got two scarts one marked RGB and the other AV2.
It seems a shame I can't use the component outputs somehow?

    Anyway thanks for your replies.

It may say in the manual - otherwise try putting a scart from the digibox to the DVD player (into AV2), then from the DVD player to the TV from AV1 (but not from the digibox to the TV). If you get a picture then bingo.

You won't be able to use the components though - AFAIK the DX40 doesn't offer component in. Toshiba sets are the best bet for that.

Some people like SCART's, some hate em.

Personally I think they're fairly good..only thing they should have added are screw down terminals like PC connectors.

On a single SCART lead, it can carry...

    RGB
    Widescreen signal
    S-Video (bi directional?)
    Audio (bi directional)
    Composite (bi directional)

So instead of having two compisite and two pairs of stereo phono leads you can use a single SCART instead.
