Any initial thoughts on how these two compare? Have'nt yet dipped my toes in the water with DVD recorders, I'm mainly interested in getting a good upscaled Freeview image onto my Sony HS50 projector via the HDMI connector, then good hard disk recording technology (ability to skip adverts would be nice), oh and a decent quality DVD image would be nice.

Is the DVD playback on these machines pretty respectable, say compared with the Denon 1920 which seems the best value stand-alone machine currently? I know you have to compromise somewhere but it would be good to have a single machine to perform more than adeqauately on the dvd/freeview front.

    Cheers for any help.

You can't buy the 860 until september.

The pana does not have divx.

The sony is better looking, saying that any machine is better looking than the pana.

There isn't much info on the 860.
