Hi - I think that I have changed a setting on my DVD recorder and now I am unable to record one channel whilst watching another. I have attempted to record via the EPG menu (Timer record or record) which works. However when I choose another channel to watch I get a message on the TV: operation prohibited recording in progress.

I am using a Sony LCD -> DVD -> Sony 5200 amp, all connected via HDMI leads.

    Any ideas?

hi there, there has been a few posts for this problem, it appears that the
dvd recorder in question has onley got one digital tuner and one analouge
this would account for your malady regards trevor

If you are trying to use the Sony to watch one digital channel while recording another then as noted above the Sony only has one digital tuner so this will not work. In fact this problem is not specific to the Sony, no off the shelf DVD recorders have 2 digital tuners at present*.
You could get a cheap digital STB for live channels while using the Sony for recording.
*The only twin digital tuner recorders are Hard Drive only recorders (PVRs) or more exotic computer based kit.

Correct with one correction, the OP has said he's using a Sony LCD. All recent Sony LCDs have built in freeview tuners so he only need change channel on the TV to watch a different channel while the DVD recorder records from its own tuner.

Evidently he's got used to watching through the DVD recorder instead of the TV's tuner.

yep, you're right. I have wired it that way cause i'm using hdmi leads only. I would have to use even more leads if I wanted to watch the tv and have the sound play through the amp.
