I read here on this forum (Kramer i think!?) that the odd resolution of the HS20 gave you black bars down the sides when watching HD material.
I see that Sony has now reduced the resolution to 1280 x 766. (not 1280 x 720 however). Is this likely to still produce bars or something else??

    CH

    HS50 Looks good though

Edit:- maybe an AVland error as the review on the above link states 1280 x 720.

The panels are 1280 x 720 on the usa specs

Seems very unlikely that Sony would land us with another weird spec panel, and 56Hz requirement for 1:1 mapping.....

Nexnix have announced a price of £1899.95 inc vat. :(
I was hoping the Avland were overpricing it.
If anybody sees any cheaper prices advertised, could you post them here
Lets hope that Benji at discounttv can come up with something more competative.

I second this. I was hoping..just hoping..that this might be an option for me. Especially if what is being said about the AE700 is true (re. supply). If I can't get one of those before Christmas, I might aswell wait till next summer to get a PJ ::sigh::

This PJ business is tough :p For a "new" hobby, it's already soaked up a vast amount of my time

    inzaman,

It hasn't hit the shelves yet, should do probably around the end of this month, beginning of November. I'm quoting the following from a post I made elsewhere, though, high hopes for this one....

Thanks theritz, does look quite promising.
Was about to pull the trigger on a DLP, H77 to be precise, but with the advent of this i have put an upgrade on hold for the time being. Well also the fact that some of my finances are waiting for my cellar conversion.

Here you can find the User Manual for the HS50 (and HS51 for the US market, seems like it's the same manual):

    HS50 manual

I'm a bit concerned about the air filter that needs to be changed - not cleaned! - and the possible dust problem that can come with the position of the filter. Otherwise I like what I read a lot. A big lens-shift is exactly what I need. Fortunately for me, there's going to be a projector show here in Stockholm next week, so then I'll get to compare the PT-AE700, Z3, HS50 and Hitachi TX100 (plus a lot of other interesting projectors as well).

Horrabin, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in hearing how you get on at the projector show.
Thanks for posting the manual, certainly wetted my appetite!

 Anyone else notice the lack of Image Director software (and capability ?) with the HS50 versus HS51 ? Being able to calibrate gamma and RGB levels to produce a proper grey scale is really important for any display. I was really excited when Sony announced the inclusion of this software with the new projector ~ just hook up to your PC and go at it. Maybe the fact they've also dropped the ethernet connection on the HS50 means we couldn't run the software even if it was made available. :( Thanks a lot SONY, I guess we're too thick in Europe to be trusted with this option.
I hope I'm wrong about this assumption, but if I'm not I'll be truly p**sed !
    Rant over, Rob. :smashin:

Would importing the HS51 from somewhere be an option, the unit is multi-standard, multi-voltage. Does anyone know how the Sony warranty would work if we imported the HS51?

That's the big question. If SONY honoured the warranty on an imported HS51 I would order one today, but I don't think they will. :nono:

I had an email following my initial enquiry on the AE700 and then noticed the HS50. AVLAND are saying that Sony are expecting shipment of the HS50 from October 25th!

Get in line! I still however would like to see one before purchasing, AVLAND say they will only order as per customer requests and wont have one for Demo, which is a real shame.

Perhaps if there were enough people then maybe AVLAND would get one in for a few people to view at the same time.

Again I would like a pixel check on anything I purchase.

If they are being shipped this month and it lives up to the paper specs then I cant see why I would not but TBH, but I will need a new mount plate and the chance of one of those being available from Unicol so quickly is mission impossible!

If anyone is going (retailers) to get one in for demo please let me/us know as I will definately be buying one after a viewing.

    I'm all excited again!

After this purchase I will NOT upgrade anything, not nout! (I hope).

    Cheers

    Tone

Try contacting Nexnix. I think they plan to stock HS50.

I have spoken to Matt Gane a few times at NexNix and have sent him an email.

Will let you know the outcome if your interested in knowing what the demo situation would be.

That won't be missed at all! Digital Keystoning gives light spill and is not good for overall picture quality. What you really want is a lens shift. Which Sony have duely obliged with the HS50.
