i went to nexnix today to see some plasmas i ended up buying the z3.i tried this projector and the sony and to me they are both amazing projectors,i would have bought the sony as it was slightly better than the sanyo but to me it wasnt £450 better the sony has got better blacks and is a superb unit but the sanyo was only £1197 and you get a 3 year warranty and the bulb is much cheaper than the sony, the sony was £1643 and you only get 1 year warranty and the bulb is about £280 without the vat the sanyos bulb is £178 without the vat,i know a lot of guys on this forum wont probally be bothered with the cost but i would like to keep the projector for at least a couple of years.i tried king kong black and white dvd and the sony had better crisper text and the black level was excellent but the sanyo wasnt far behind.i also got a free projector screen which believe me is much better than what i was expecting,on the z3 i noticed no vb and i did look trust me and the uniformaty of colours was excellent matt did a missing pixel test before i left and i must thank him and nexnix for such excellent service.buy the way i also looked at the panny700 at another store and wasnt happy with the flicker i found especially on text and i could clearly see vb

Very interesting post, which would seem to confirm my own ideas about these projectors. I came from a Sony HS10 to the Z3 and the Sony would be considered to have poor black level and contrast compared to the new crop of budget projectors. I have to buy blind as there are very limited opportunities to demo projectors in Ireland (for God's sake, most shops outside of the capital don't even have electricity yet). From reading about the new projectors here and on AVs for the past two years, I was lead to believe that extra contrast would blow me away after the HS10. So when I recieved my Z3 I took two valium before switching it on in case the shock of the improved picture quality would be too much for me. I needn't have bothered. Yes the contrast is much better than the HS10 and I am now enjoying movies that I found very unsatisfying (not talking about porn here) on my old pj. Very dark movies like Van Helsing looked terrible on the HS10 but are very enjoyable on the Z3. But, absolutely nobody else who has seen the Z3 sees any difference between it and the HS10. My wife, friends and a videographer Brother cannot see any improvement.

I was tempted by all the fantastic posts regarding the HS51 to ditch my Z3 and change, but for €500, I believed that I would not see that signifigant and improvement. I would be going to a 1 year warranty from three, and the Z3 has other advantages too. Don't get me wrong, I know that the Sony is in many ways a superior machine, but I don't think that any of us lowly Z3 or Ae700 etc owners should be feeling like the poor relation.

    Comer,

    Good post mate. Interesting stuff.

I have always seen huge differences in all of the projectors I own. I am far from an expert but as owners I think we all know what are looking at and looking for each time we change a machine.

Glad you are enjoying the Z3.
