Sony home cinema speaker cable connectors

Can anybody help please?
Have just moved house and got the following equipment:

Sony KDL32D300 TV
&
Sony DAV DZ230 home cinema system

The living room already has the surround sound speaker wires installed behind the skirting boards
So I would like to use these if possible.
However the existing speaker wires have a single phono (RCA) connector at each end.
This is different to the Sony cables that have the exposed wires one end and a square colour coded push fit connector the other.
Does any one know if there is and standard connector to convert these or is it just easy to cut the cables and splice the Sony connector on?
If so how do I know which is pos and which is neg??

Thanks in advance
Keith
