New to the MP3, this has earphones.
I have an old set of headphones from an old tape Walkman that work ok but not perfect.
I would like a larger headphone and assumed that the Sony MDRNC6 should plug in and maybe give some benefit from the noise cancelling.
    I would appreciate any comments.

You'll find that the noise cancelling is also partly down to the speakers in (the outer part of) the ear phones themselves.
So, using a different pair, the noise cancelling wont work.

    Thanks for your reply.
Is the noise cancelling built into the MDRNC6 headphones ineffective because of the noise cancelling built into MP3 player ?
I had hoped the headphones would replace the noise cancelling of the MP3 + earphones.
