Sony Firmware Updates LCD televsions

Hi,

Just wondering if Sony offers any firmware updates that can be downloaded and installed for their LCD televsions i.e. KDL40w4500.

Bought a Sony KDL-S32A12U in June 2006 for use in the kitchen (sits on the top of an american freezer).
HD Ready but never thought I would get HD because the SKY HD Box was a long distance away in the lounge.
Recently purchased a HUMAX PVR HD-the tv having a HDMI connection-to my surprise gives me a good HD picture on BBC and ITV (about once a month).

I have read threads on this forum that raised many issues about the faults in the software that SONY had failed to remedy, so I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the HD picture.

Looking in the manual under technical set up there are the following option
Auto service up date
Software download
System information.

Depending on your settings you have access to automatic software download.

Mins states starter 2-4-56
software version 2-4-161

As my set was set on automatic download (took me 30 months to actually look at this) I presume my set has the most up to date software.


At New Year I called into the SONY centre in Warrington to ascertain if my software update was the latest.
The chap I spoke to was adamant there was no facility to download software on SONY TV`s-he insisted the only download was Via SKY.
I was unable to convince him-promised to revisit with the manual to educate him about the products he sells.

I have just checked my Sony KDL-46X2000 manual-the same technical service section is listed in the manual.


Thay will be my next task-will update thread.

Just checked the 46X

The firmware automatic option was set to on.

The readings were Starter 0.0.31
Software version 2.10.105

Signal level High (100% bar_

Is there anyway to establish if the software downloads are the most up to date ?

Im pretty sure those are just to do with the digital tv software not the actual tv.
