    Guys

Just wondering, why does no-one seem to like the Sony ES amps? On paper they seem ok: video up-conversion, 2-way learning remote, digital amplification, high power. Yet every dealer I speak to doesn't deal with them! Matter fact, not even my local Sony centre knew much about the ES amps (though they'd happily sell me an STR-DB795 or DB2000). And I don't see them being talked about much on here...

So what's the deal? Are they that bad??

I tested a STRDB3000 with a couple of its peers earlier this year. Firstly it is not a bad amplifier but the spec of this "current" product was no better than my then amp, a Marantz SR7300. Added to this the fact that it is gold :thumbsdow, ugly :thumbsdow, and extremely complicated to use in comparison to a similar Denon or Pioneer product I just couldn't see the point.
