On my Sony rdrhxd 860 we are very happy with the EPG that is on the machine it is intuitive easy to use and does all we need. When a program is selected on the guide a page is shown with program info and record options. this is available while recording or playback.

On my newer sonys, 870 and 995 there are 2 options for the guide;
guide plus which does not work,
or the digital guide which is clunky and rubbish.
The only supposed improvement are preview thumbnails that are annoying and no program info.
How do I get the guide I have on the 860?

EPG's are integrated into machines so you can only use what is offered.

However, try going through the Guideplus EPG setup and select Bid TV as the host channel in the setup, which may give you access to Digital Guideplus.

See here.

Thanks for the reply
I thought there must be something I was missing.
I cannot understand why a newer model sony would be more difficult to use.
If it was an improved guide it would make sense to change it.
The earlier guide is so much quicker am I the only one to think this?
There is a thread about problems with the 860 epg but apart from the week of the changeover mine seem ok.
