    Hi, Does anyone know if there is a "mod" to allow sony dvp735d dvd player to play cd-r disc's

    It's not a software thing. The Sony X25 and x35 models do not have the required laser pickup so it would need a whole load of changing in the hardware and then the software would need to rewritten to take this into account.

    Use Princo brand CDRs and any brand of CDRW as these work fine in the sony models.

    as you say no prob with cd-rw

    dont s'pose there's anything that can b written to cd-r first to trick player into thinking it's a cd-rw ??

    Most CDR's are simply not reflective enough for the 735. I have heard Princo ones work but have never managed to find any so can't comment.

    the princo CDR's do work as i've used them on my 725
