Sony have released in Australia the DVP S735D, single disk DVD player.

Does anyone know if this is the replacement for the DVP S725? Is it any good and are there any reviews on-line?

It's Sony's 3rd generation 2nd from top model, and is a sort of replacement for the 725, which is 2nd generation. They are selling concurrently in the UK.

However, the 735 lacks the audiophile features (components and design) of the 725 and, also, cannot play CD-Rs (and CD-RWs?) as it only has a single laser - the 725 has twin lasers (one optimized for DVD, one for CD).

I would hazard a guess that the picture on the 735 is slightly better than the 725 (all reviews of the 735 say it's excellent, and it *is* the newer model), but that the 725 easily beats it for audio - the 725 has better jitter measurements on its digital outputs than even the Sony 7700.
