    Hi pjohn,
I own the Sony player although it has been resigned to the main living room, progressive scan duties taken over by the Yamaha DVD-S540. If the bulk of your movie watching will be UK region 2 DVDs, personally you would not see a HUGE difference, despite the fact that I would still recommend the upgrade. A more noticable difference would be seen when running Region 1 NTSC discs. The 725D has one of the best interlaced pictures Ive seen and still rates as an excellent CD playback machine, so I wouldnt throw it away either!!
