Sony DVP NS715P - component vs. composite image quality

I have a Sony DVP NS715P player and a Sony 57" widescreen, both set to Progressive mode, and hooked up via 6' Acoustic Research Component cables. Keep in mind that I've never seen a "progressive" picture before this. I switch my player back to INTERLACE mode (switch on the back, as well as in menu setup) and I notice NO difference.

In addition, if I hook up the DVD player with a composite (1 video) cable, the image is also very similar. Not a night/day difference like most describe. I actually don't know if there really is ANY difference, maybe just wishful thinking saying there is.

What am I doing wrong? Any insight is appreciated.
