    Hi

I need some help, I am about to buy a DVD player (SONY DVPNS405S), with a view to getting a receiver (SONY HTDDW740S) in the future.

My question is, will I be able to get 5.1 sound with this setup, as far as I can tell, the player does not have a built in Dolby 5.1 decoder.

My presumption is that as it has an optical out, the receiver will process it instead once linked up. Is that totally wrong!?

    Thanks in advance

Indeed, the Sony receiver will do the decoding.

Save another £30/£40 though and buy the 840, which has ProLogic 11.

    Hi,

I have the 405 unit and it has a Digital Output but no Dolby Digital decoder!!

This is my third DVD player and the best, im well impressed with the quality, especially playing DVDR's and MP3's

    Cheers
