I have a Sony DSC-F717 that had a dead battery, I thought. I plugged the charger into it allowed it to charge for 30 minutes and came back and the green CHG light was blinking. I tried to turn the unit on and got sparks out the left side of the camera, where it folds down.

I wonder if this would be a simple problem to repair? Maybe a wire was placed in the wrong location or something from the factory? It's been cold a few times, but it was never moved while it was cold.

    Thank you,
