I have a DCR-TRV320E – When I play back tapes, there are three or four thick grey bands across the picture, and the sound drops in & out. I’ve run a Scotch 8mm cleaning tape through it about 20 times and that’s had no effect at all.

Is it worth trying to clean the head with an Isopropyl Alcohol solution or similar (assuming the head is clogged?).

One other thing is I’ve tried playing older Digital 8 recordings that I know were ok, and they also have the same problem, so it appears to be a Playback issue only.

    Anyone have any ideas?

if you've ran a head cleaning tape through it more than a couple of times then I think you need to visit a repair specialist and see if they can repair it, yo've probably mashed the heads with over zealous cleaning in addition to the orginal problem.

Well - about 7 or 8 times actually! (just going for effect :D ) - but it had no effect whatsoever.

Anyway, I think I'll look for a second hand one, as repairs generally aren't cost effective on this level of equipment (e.g. Jessops want £45 non-refundable up front, just to supply a quote!).

Anyone know of any good sources for second hand equipment?
