Sony DH 820

I’m trying to get my Cambridge Audio Azur 840a (2 channel amp) to run the front Left and Right speakers on my AV, but get my AV amp to run the other surround speakers.
I need to run cables from my Sony DH820 pre-outs to a Fixed-Level input on the Azur.....but it’s not working.
I’m assuming that Audio-Out connections on the AV are the pre-outs?
Any thoughts?

Thanks
John

The pre-outs on the Sony should be live and running them to the correct line-in for the amps HT by-pass. According to the manual, page 16, any line in can be used as assigned for by-pass with the receiver controlling the volume. Silly question but you do have the speakers connected to the CA?

Silly questions are welcome as I’m an AV novice.
I’ve got my left and right fronts (ie my 2 channel Hi-Fi speakers, Celestion 66s, connected to the CA).
The Sony AV amp sound is working (via headphones).... so I thought I’d next set up the centre, rear and sub-woofer on the Sony to see if they work....maybe the Sony is knackered.
The Sony has two sets of Audio-Outs (Zones A & B), can’t get either to work.

Zone 2's output is independent of the main room and the associated speakers cannot be integrated into the main room setup. You'd also be limited to analogue audio sources and the receiver's radio tuning as far as sources for the second zone are concerned.

The DH820 doesn't include pre outs for the main room's front left and right channels.

OK - any recommendations for a new AV amplifier (UK) that does have Pre-Out facility?
Thanks

For just the front 2 channels?

All of Marantz's AV receiver's include pre outs for at least the front left and right channels. Yamaha's RXV685 has them and is probably the cheapest current model to do so. You'd need to be looking at higher end models if wanting other options. The lowest tier Denon model to include pre outs would be the AVRX3500.

What's your budget?

Thanks for the advice - £500 or so.
What would you recommend around that price range? I only need pre-out for front left and right channels.
Cheers John

£600 would afford you the Denon AVRX3500 which has pre outs for all of its 7 channels
The Yamaha RXA685 retails for about £440.

Thanks for the advice to date - I’ve purchased a second hand Marantz NR1603 which I’m in the process of setting up to 5.1.

I’m using the pre-out function to run front right and left via my hi-fi amp and speakers (Celestion Ditton 66s) ...... I’m going to run surround Left and Right (Mission 751s) plus centre (Mission 75c) from the Marantz.

My outstanding question is how to connect the sub-woofer. It’s a Mission 73AS.
The Marantz has a SW output on the pre-out (single plug) whilst the SW has Left and Right Line-In phono plugs (but it also has Four High-Level in speaker terminals) ...can anyone advise as I’m confused, do I need a single to double phono lead? The SW output on my old Yamaha has left and right outputs do use normal red and black phono leads.

Cheers

Connect the receiver's subwoofer pre out to the left RCA Line In input on the Mission 73AS. This is the only connection required because the sub output is mono and just one channel in nature.

You'll then need to set the sub's own LEVEL dial to about the 10 o'clock position, its X-OVER filter all the way around to 150Hz and its PHASE setting to 0° before running the receiver auto calibration. Youd not alter these settings again without having to again run the receiver calibration.
