I have my eye set for the Sony DCR-PC8 camcorder,
and have searched the net for a review with no success.

As I'm leaving Denmark for a holiday on Sunday,
and no shop in my town carry the "What Camcorder" July ed.
I have no chance getting hold of the July review before business hours Saturday.

Can someone please tell me if it's thumbs up or thumbs down for the Sony DCR-PC8.

    Thanx

    Traveller

    Traveller,

It is thumbs up in What camcorder. 9/10 points - best buy.

If you had time to order one from the internet you can get one for £679 at http://www.letsgodigital.co.uk (FREE Next day delivery to Mainland UK addresses for orders placed before 15.00 hrs )

Go to pricerunner.co.uk and go to cameras section/camcorders and you will find all the prices there, and hopefully one of them have one in stock and who can send you immediately, Good Luck

    Sony DCR-PC8 excellent camera.
Investigate Panasonic NV-GX7B and JVC GR-DVP7 too.

i am thinking of buying one as well. have seen very good reviews for it.
they are roughly the same price from various sources on the web. I tried to get John Lewise to price match it but they weren't having any of it.
is it a lot cheaper duty free? I am asking this as my brother is coming back from holiday in a week and can pick it up for me at the airport

Just bought a PCR 8 - pleased with it so far although basically haven't shot anything yet.
    Check out premieravcentre.co.uk - VERY cheap price (£649 + £9.99 del.)
I found out after I bought mine :-(
    Good luck

I got mine today!:p I asked John lewis to price match it last week, they photocopied Premier AV's ad showing the price at £649, then they took a few days to check it up and i got the all clear t'other day!

I haven't been able to test it yet as they don't include a tape or cable:(

EDIT: I think that Premier AV has put the price of the pc8 upto £699. I think i read that in the latest ad in what camcorder

    Thanks all.

I'm now the happy owner of the Sony DCR-PC8.
Giving the lack of time, I bought it local for £ 850!

That's still a bargain in Denmark. Another local store
have "reduced" the price from £ 1.200 to "only" £ 1.020.
    What a hoax.

I've been testing the camera for a full day, and I'm pleased!
Vivid, sharp colours and an extremely handy handycam.
I also bought the LCM-PCY2 bag, and it fits like a glove.

I thought about buying an extra battery FM71, but it's £ 102 (local) and twice the size of the FM30, so I'll wait to see if the need arise.

I'm also looking forward to using the cameras feature of converting my old footage to editable DV.

Later I'm building a new computer and I'm considering
a Audigy Player (firewire) and VideoStudio 6.
I can see the Platinum Ex comes bundled with VideoStudio 4 SE basic, so it might be a safe bet that v. 6 will be compatible with the Audigy and the DCR-PC8.
Does anyone know about this combination?

    Traveller
