Hi could someone PLEASE HELP ME! im am really freaking out now. I have purchased a Sony DCR-HC42E I have been trying for 4 days solid to get it to capture via the firewire cable into adobe premeire or anything else.

I have read the forums but cant find any help on getting the pc and laptop to identify that the camera is there!

It works via the usb streaming software which comes with the camera but the quality isnt very good. I have installed all the software that came with the camera but nothing happens EVEN when i switch modes to try and active it.

I would REALLY apppreciate some help here as im trying to get a wedding video edited. Cheers
Alex. :)

Hi

I also have a HC42E. Connected the camcorder via firewire to the PC and laptop and both recognise it straight away with no problems. As soon as the camcorder is switched on the PC or laptop sees the camcorder.

The first time I connected it, it installed some Windows drivers automatically. It didn't prompt me for anything.

I'm using Windows XP with Service Pack 2. on both laptop and PC.

Have you tried exchanging the firewire cable to see if that is the problem. I use an inexpensive £3.00 cable, bought from the computer fair. Works a treat.

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 9 with latest patch and Pinnacle Liquid 6.10. Both work OK.

You can download trial version of Pinnacle Studio 9 from their website if you want to try the software. It will install and check the firewire drivers on your PC as well, in case they have manged to become corrupted somehow.

Before opening any editing software is the camcorder even detected by Windows? If not then I would say it is a good bet that the firewire cable needs replacing. This tends to be a fairly common fault, even with brand new cables

Mark.
