Having seen them both and heard them, I bought the DCS313.

Got it the next day from Discount Audio, never bought from them before but they rang me up with a small query, next day the courier rang to say he would be there in the afternoon.

    Excellent sound and picture quality.

    Definitely recommended.

As an alternative opinion have a look at What Hifi magazine. They basically have the 550 as just about their only best buy with regards home cinema systems but seriously disliked the Pioneer DCS313 with some rather awful comments about it. I've not seen or heard the DCS313 in action but I did think the 550 lacked bass and wasn't very dynamic. The 550 also only has s-video and component out with no scart rgb out. Its s-video image has been described as slightly grainy. Personally I don't rate either system there are better options out there although my opinion of the DCS313 is only formed by reviews I've seen.

If I was buying now I'd seriously look at the Jamo system or something by Panasonic or the JVC TH-A75R.
