DVD Plaayer: All rental dvd seems to be mis-tracking and skipping. (however, new dvd's play without problems). Is there something wrong with the DVD player? Do I need to take it in or can I 'clean' the player? How can I fix this issue?

Sounds like it's just sensitive to the dirt that's on rentals. I reckon cleaning it should do the trick. You local electrical superstore should have a head cleaner.

Can I buy a cleaner and do it myself?

bought a cleaner and tried it. still same problem. only new dvd's play without skipping / mis-tracking. all rentals have problems.

people at the video shop recons that this is a common sony dvd problem (as loads of customers complain about this). hopefully sony will reliase this and start making decent dvd players someday. My system is now going into the trash bin!
