I have a Sony DAV S-888 approx 2 or 3 years old which has hardly been used maybe 30 dvd's maximum. It is now freezing and getting "blocky" after it has been playing a while. Nothing on top of it to cause overheating etc ... any suggestions, i have ran a DVD cleaner disc through it, with little improvement, it still locks up and pixellates etc

Can't help on the blocking/freezing issue apart from suggesting you try and clean the laser head, but you could use the unit as an amp and feed it a signal from another dvd player via an digital optical lead. I use a Samsung HD745 as my player and my 888 as an amp only.

I have the same problem with my DAV S550. It has also started struggling with some menu screens.
I have still got a year to run on the guarantee (from Richer Sounds) so I may take it back to them.

I have the same problem. And mine is 2 year old too!
Are you happy with the picture and sound quality with you samsung HD745? I was thinking of getting Samsung 950 or possibly Denon 1920?
I used my S888 with an epson tw200 projector.
