It may be that the divx disks you recorded are in xvid format which isn`t supported.

In what concerns to the multiregion upgrade, it seems to me that is done at firmware level, so if you install a firmware update, most probably your multiregion settings will be gone.

I recently bought one of these too, and yesterday I had a pleasant surprise, when I tried to read XVID video files and I managed to do it!
Still then, I also have some AVI files which I'm not able to play: Data error.

One more thing, check this tool: http://gspot.headbands.com/ to know exactly which codec is needed to read your AVI files.

Another thing: I already installed the firmware update and worked 100% in what concerns to reading independent file subtitle files.

    Hope this helps,
    Nuno

    Dunno!

What I know is that I installed the firmware update from Sony to allow the subtitles from files and the player is able to read XVID files with no problem. Still then, I have other files which can't be read (neither DivX certified or XVID).

I believe that if you install the firmware update first and then the multiregion upgrade, it should work, because the firmware update from Sony simply replaces the existing firmware information and the multiregion upgrade most probably only changes the necessary info to play DVDs from all regions.

Although this is a wild guess... it makes sense!
