SONY DAV-DZ260 surround sound with xbox360

Sorry if this seems like a stupid thing to ask but I actually don't know! Will this system play true surround sound of my xbox360 games? It has an optical cable socket which is what I'm led to believe is what I need.

yep, xbox 360 - optical audio lead - DZ260 will give you 5.1 surround.

I have a Monster cable - lightspeed 100. 2m long which cost 48GBP which seems expensive but am i paying a fair amount for the quality?

nope, IMO moster cables offer nothing in terms of quality over cheaper or non branded ones, that do the same job,and no differences can be seen or heard, to be honest,especially when its optical or hdmi leads.
