Has anyone found ananswer to this.

I bought this unit at Christmas and can't get Divx films to play.

Its correct that the manual states "exepct UK", but you only find this out after it has been bought.

Well i have just been in touch with Sony UK's head office.

The DZ230 UK model does not play Divx films.

They are today informing all their stores.

Anyone can get their money back if not happy.

Is there any way of unlocking the playback of Divx on the DZ230 ?

No, it can not be unlocked.
It's not a matter of putting in a code like you do to make it region free.
You would have to work for $ony and have the source code.

Panasonic have been doing this for yrs on their dvd recorders.
i.e. divx except for the UK.

Get ya money back and get a machine that does play divx.

DivX playback requires more processing power, so it's not not a feature I'd expect to be able add normally on a player by a software update.

If I remember correctly, a friend bought his daughter the DZ230 from PC world under the belief it played DivX (something which the sales rep confirmed I believe).

It turns out it was suprisingly widely-misreported on the web to have this feature. I think he ended up going for the next model up, with tallboy speakers (well, about 40cm plus includedstands). That model did have the DivX ability.

Regards,

Dan.
