Well, not the one in Coventry that has just gone out of business!
Don't know about anyone else, but it had never occurred to me that "Sony Centre" was a franchise operation. Just assumed it was the manufacturer's retail outlet.

Good reason for using a credit card for a big purchase even if you have the cash - you get protection against the firm going bust before they deliver the goods.

Happy ending, however, for one victim, an employee who was told by text his job had gone.

(If this is not the right forum, Admin, please move it. Thanks)

    ouch poor guy :(

seems to be getting popular getting fired by text message. i mean is that even legal? i thought in order to get laid off you have to get a formal letter.

curse these BIG companies!!! they run on the policy of people can be easily replaced.

    damn them all!

They are not even Franchises. They are 100% independant companies. They are called Sony Centres simply because they sepcialise in Sony stuff.

    Pope also admits Catholic leanings

Bear admits "Yes at some point I may have shat in woods."

I'm not sure any of those things were ever owned by Sony. Frankly I amazed that more of them haven't gone under when you take into account the amazingly high prices coupled with amazingly low levels of service.

these stores are pretty poor, I have gone in a few times and found that they have a poor range of stock, often old models, staff who don't know what multi region means and yes, ridiculous prices. I find it hard to feel sympathy for such stores.

But McDonalds are franchised aren't they, so there is a tie betwwen the two firms. Sony Centres are, for example, Audio Vision Ltd trading as The Sony Centre. No actual ties with Sony itself.

The Sony Centre in Horsham was owned by Capital Sound and Vision of Crawley. They have gone out of business and taken down their web site www.unbeatable.co.uk which, for a while, lived up to its name

The one in Portsmouth and also in Fareham is known as Milton Audio-Visual. Would agree with the decline in product choice and the high prices. For example, our local Portsmouth one also used to be Mission dealers - I bought my m70s there, along with my first Sony seperates system. They no longer stock Mission. I now tend to use Now That's HiFi - our local Pioneer dealer, with a good range of gear, decent prices and knowledgable staff. They also deal in brands such as NAD, Pro-Ject (all my seperates are from there), Tannoy, Marantz and Mission. Some of the higher-end Sony stuff and other parts of the range never seems to even be stocked in Sony Centres.

Same company owned the Coventry store. FYI, the company that took on the ex-employee is Frank Harvey

I believe the Panasonic Centre and Sony Centre in Hereford are owned by the same people.

The volume down button on the membrane keypad of my Sony KV36FS70 failed. Having purchased the set from the local Sony Centre, I approached them about a replacement keypad. They, never having known one fail before, said they'd make enquires and get back to me. 3 weeks and several visits later still no joy so I took it upon myself to do an independent search.

Within a hour I'd found a service agent in Malvern; within a day he got back to me with a part number; within 3 days it was in my hand (and the replacement took all of 5 minutes). Seems to me that the local Sony Centre just couldn't be bothered.

good luck to you mate,1 we no longer deal with mission because sony wouldnt let us sell mission, hence why the name SONY CENTRE not Mission centre,2 im not suprrised they have a good range of gear cause they stock more brands, hence more range of gear :suicide: i go in thats hifi often and ive seen there sony range they hardley have anything sony in there and certainly not the higher end stuff, also there prices on sony stuff is not cheaper  on most its even higher!!on there tv's and flat panels they only give you 1 yr warrenty sony give 3yrs  and stock wise at the moment we prob have most of the range in stock the only products that we dont hold is the top end ES range because no1 around portsmouth wants it but it dosent mean we cant order it in(and to be honest i dont think the higher end hifi seperates are any good) and dont forget as we are not run by sony so we have to buy our own stock so we are not gonna order stuff thats gonna stay on the self and collect dust!!!and lose money,on prices we are the same as most places except the internet, but we also price match,so anyway im glad you dont come in anymore i wouldnt want people like you in the shop anyway :hiya: happy shopping in thats hifi ;)
