Sony Bravia KDL40RD453BU - a budget standard 40", 1080p TV. Going for around £300 at the current moment.

I cannot seem to find any proper detailed reviews on this TV, so can anyone provide any good information on it? Like the good and the bad. Owner opinions would be most welcome.

The only thing I've heard about this TV is that the sound is not good and may have some sound problems?

    Thanks in advance.

Its just a bottom of the range 2016 model, I expect it will be in the same category as other brands bottom of the barrel tv's this year, eg not that great. These kind of tv's are meant for summer home/bedroom use and therefore aren't the greatest quality.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am going to use it for a bedroom TV. If you were to choose between the Sony KDL40RD453BU and Samsung UE40J5100AK (both the budget equivalents at the same price, no SMART) which one would be the better buy?

Can you afford the Samsung j5500 or k5600? Those are the only ones Samsung ones I've seen recommended. You don't hear anything about the quality compared of all the lower end TVs so it's hard to say which is better than the other. The two models I mentioned are praised for there good TV picture quality.

Thanks, I will research the J5500 later.

Right now I am leaning towards the Sony KDL-40RD453BU, because I have discovered that the main difference between this and the Samsung UE40J5100 is that:

    - the Sony has a Direct Backlit LED, whereas the Samsung has an Edge-Lit LED
    - the Sony has LAN/Ethernet, the Samsung doesn't
    - both are VA panel, but the Samsung one appears to use a Sharp VA panel

I think this means the Sony will have the better picture quality?

So it's between the KDL40RD45 and the J5500 now.
