Sony Bravia KDL-32D3000 - Purple vertical line! faulty?

It is KDL-32D3000 in my case. As you can read from several forums your best bet is to find dout what tcon board you have in your TV and search it from internet by product code. For my TV i found 5 different tcon boards and the one I bought didn't actually match my original board 's code but it works. It can be different with your TV model ofcourse.

Cool. The T-Con board mine uses is this one:
Sony KDL-32D3000 - LVDS - 324046WHC6LV2.2 - £34.99 : FlatTVParts.co.uk!, LCD Spares & Plasma Spares - LCD Parts & Plasma Parts
and it belongs to a panel S-LCD LTZ320WH-L2H. Any ideas if yours was the same and what the replacement T-Con part number was? Thanks.

Hi

Not sure if you're still collecting stats on this problem, but I've found this thread by googling my problem, so you can add me to your list.

My set gave up on Thursday night (just before the world cup started :().

Vertical coloured bars exactly like previous posters' pictures.

Mine has switched itself on and off almost since it was new. I hadn't realised it was a fault though. I thought it was something to do with the SkyHD box remotely switching the telly.

Mine is a KDL-32D3000 purchased 7th August 2007 (don't know the exact manufacturing date but it was ordered online and the retailer had to wait for stock, so must have been shortly before then).

I have an extended waranty, so am waiting on the repair company to diagnose the problem and the insurance company to authorise the repair.

Where will I stand if the replacement part fails??

If they write the set off, what is the equivalent Bravia model? (I've new for old replacement on the waranty.)

Thanks

Andy

Oh my god, I mispelled. It was actually KDL-32S3000 not D model.
Best is to check the long code on white stripe on board. The t-con board model in my case (!) was for example T315XW02 VE but when I searched different online retailers I found 3 different types of T315XW02 VE all with different codes. Anyway the shop I bought mine doesn't separate them by this long code and it didn't match with mmy original board. TV works well but better check this code before you actually buy the card. The codes for my noard looks like: 55.31T03.107 (orig.) or 55.06A90.003 or 55.31T03.117 (new). The price differences are huge btw. I saw this board on sale from 25€ + 5€pp to 83$+25$pp its almost 4x different and I decided for cheapest because had no guarantee it will works.

ShopJimmy Search results for: 06A90-11
I bought mine from:
LCD & PDP TV parts online

After quick search found your board number belongs to KDL-32XBR4 as well Sony 1-789-796-12 T-Con Board

So be careful when buying and check all codes/part number before. Oh btw the same Sony model can be totally different in US and Europe. My 32S3000 is like poor cheap brother of US 32S3000.
BTW found this about KDL32D3000:

Sorry again for messing 32S3000 with 32D3000, hope it caused no trouble.

I was rather shocked to see this thread after googling the vertical line problem for my KDL-32D3000. You can add me to your stat's. Mine was manufactured in 09/2007.

The symptoms I get are slightly different to those generally experienced. I get the lines for between 5 seconds and 4 minutes from switch on and then the set generally works OK with just infrequent appearance of lines (sometimes none for 2-3 hours). Picture is exactly as per most of the images posted.

Hopefully the extended guarantee (now 4 months from end) will fully resolve this without cost. (I've been waiting on a part from the Sony service agent for over a week now.) Otherwise I'll be going down the Sale of Goods Act route.

Time will tell.

Hi Everyone,

My Sony KDL32D3000 is also on the way out with the same issue - vertical purple lines.

Manufacture date 09/07.

Got a quote from a local (ish) repairer who said they could fix it for ~£150 inc parts but they can't get hold of the part at the moment. They also wouldn't disclose the part (I guess to guarantee them business).

Got the TV back now until they get the part but it's deteriorated to the point that it's now unwatchable.

Currently looking for receipt to find purchase date and retailer (it was an online shop).

Now need to decide whether to wait for repair or purchase a new TV to watch the World Cup / Wimbledon as the Sony was the only TV in house lareger than 13".

Hmmmm....

:thumbsdow

Hi People,

It's been a while since I posted, I won't give an update just yet, because I have filed against the retailer.

Did anyone here buy their tv from prc-direct?

If you did private message me please. I am hoping we can help eachother!!!!

Thanks

Glen

Got mine back from the repairers on Thursday (repaired under extended waranty).

God, I missed that telly.

FYI, the invoice stated the repair as being 'Replace LCD panel, set up and test'.

Costs were £278.39 for the panel, £100.00 for labour and VAT on the lot.

Total £444.61. Probably more than the TV is worth. Glad I paid for the waranty now.

Its interesting how some retailers have a different policy. John Lewis will exchange once repair hits 50% of cost of set.

Also interesting, and sad, that we are still getting so many sets faulty....and all 2007. No doubt there are a few outside of this but this was one of the issues. The apparent fact that there was a bad batch of screens manufactured in 2007. Sony don't give monkeys and people here have written to watch dog but they are only interested in dodgy builders and soap powders. i.e. with the latter, silly little consumer issues rather than major manufacturer cock ups that cost people hundreds of pounds and stress and missing the opportunity to expose the casual contempt of someone like Sony to the public.

Unfortunately found out that I too had joined the unlucky list of KDL32D3000 owners whom are experiencing vertical lines consistent with the pics posted by others. Japanese wife was quite upset that it happened just prior to the World Cup match with Paraguay today... what timing!

Manufactured in June 2007. Purchased from Empire Direct (now bust) so no hope there...

Happy to be added to the list if that is still going!

It seems unclear from the postings what has been most economical for people with no extended warranty cover, and in this case with no retailer to contact I am wondering if it is worth writing it off and purchasing a new TV rather than the hassle and costs of forking out for the repairs?

I belong to a tv engineers forum, and this has been discussed there.

One engineer has managed to repair one of these sets with this fault, just by re soldering some connections on the Tcon board.

I'm not going to give details of what to re solder as that's on a forum restricted to tv engineers, but this is more by way of saying that it does look like the fault, in some cases at least, can be repaired for virtually no cost.

It's a sad fact that today, most tv engineers don't try repairing sets properly, they just swap out the faulty board. If you are in a situation where your set is with a repairer and he says it needs a new tcon board, try suggesting to him that he looks at re soldering some of the joints on the existing tcon board.

I have a KDL 32D3000 manufacture date 05/07 bought from Edgware Hi-Fi June 2007. It has been switching itself off for several months. Sometimes it switches itself back on again but not always. I find I can get it back by changing the AV input from 5 to 4 and then back again. I have not had the problem with the vertical lines yet! Glad to know I am not alone - add me to the list.

I have just engaged a TV repair man who wiggled the HDMI connection 5 to the SKY Box and the TV went off - suggesting a dry joint or a dirty plug/socket. We moved the SKY box to HDMI 4 and it has switched itself off twice in a four hour period - much less than when connected to HDMI 5. I am now using the HDMI connection 7 at the side of the set and so far it has not switched off.

Today I recieved a call from Dixons, offering me £340 towards the purchase of a new set, after i sent them a SOGA letter with a copy of my Comet tv engineers report stating that the sceen needed replacing, at a cost of £327. I have approached Sony too for a good will guesture to make up the difference to enable me to buy a new Sony product and 'restore my confidence in the brand'. They have asked for a copy of the estimate of repair, proof of purchace from Dixons and a cover letter, they have not promised anything, but the lady sounded quite optimistic about it. Hope you all are getting somewhere with your efforts.

I will give you an update on my quest.

I have written several letters to Sony explaining the situation, even stating SOGA and guess what they are not interested at all. Shocker.

Their last letter suggested that I contact the retailer and file against them, I showed the retailer this letter to maybe get them on my side and put pressure onto Sony.

After a couple of days I had a phone call from the retailers offering me £100 off the repair price(Making it £160 for me with 3 month warranty), or a Sony KDL32EX503 for £535.

Im quite peed off that its only £100 off. And the new Sony is only £65 cheaper then John lewis online.

Im very tempted to just fix the TV myself.

Make that only £15 pounds cheaper, price runner are doing the same tv for £550

Hi All, I have the same fault as of about two weeks ago!

The symptoms I get are slightly different to those generally experienced. I get the lines for between 5 seconds and 10 minutes from switch on and then the set generally works OK with just infrequent appearance of lines.

Built 06/2007 from John Lewis with luckily a five year warranty. Will call them Monday to start the repair process going.

Cheers

got another update, the retailers have said after a snotty letter that they will do the whole repair for £95....I'm so sick of this, i might as well just go ahead and have it done. ( i will try to get 6 months warranty out of them with it)

I have one question for you all though, for those that got a repair job after the repair has been done have any of you had any other problems at all?? any thing related?

Hi,
Another to add to the list.
Found this forum last night after TV picture replaced by intermittent multi coloured vertical lines. This morning no picture at all - just the lines.
Have bought Sony TV's etc since the mid 70's and this is the first to cause me grief.
Spoke to Sony who's official line is that there has been no recall of the product but suggested I try to recover any repair costs under house insurance!
I have sent the retailer, RGB Direct in Ilford, Essex, a letter along the lines of the draft available from the BBC web site http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theoneshow/consumer/2009/07/03/sale_of_goods_act_letter_downl.html - they did a few programmes covering the unreliability of the earlier PS3s! I have copied to Watch Dog.
Checked with a local authorised Sony Repair centre over the phone and they confirmed that it sounded like a board needed replacing. A starting cost of £200 plus VAT.
As I don't expect products from a major manufacturer to fail within 3 years I am looking at changing my allegiance. Anyone have views on Panasonic’s TX-L37S20B?

Manufacturing date 07/2007 assembled in Spain.

You know guys... I really thought I got away with it and I was one of the lucky ones. Alas, mine has gone the same way and the screen is a total mess of white and purple vertical lines. (Manufacture date of mine is 05/2007)

Best get my pointing finger out and take it to John Lewis and see what they'll offer me :D). Any recommendations on a replacement set?
