SONY BDV-E870 + movies on an external hard drive help

hey,

I've got a SONY BDV-E870 and I'd love to be able to connect my external HD and watch movies from it. Whenever I connect the external hard drive, the system recognizes that its there, but says that the device cannot be played. Just wondering what I have to do to be able to watch films. I'm not great with electronics, so any help would be great. Cheers,
Ben

If its anything like my player the drive has to be formatted as fat32 which is annoying since fat32 has a 4gb file size limit so you will need to split any larger files.
