    Good to see that Sony are continuing to support the S1. I will be updating mine tonight - has anyone tried it yet? Here's what the website says:

    Incidentally, at 60.7MB, it's about twice the size of previous firmware updates!

    "This utility updates the BDP-S1 firmware to version 2.10, and provides the following benefits:

    Improvements over firmware version 2.00:

    * Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.

    Additional improvements over original firmware:

    * Adds Dolby® TrueHD and Dolby® Digital Plus Audio decoding functionality.
    * Enhanced playback compatibility with certain BD-ROM format discs.
    * Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
    * Enhanced customer support capability
    * Compatibility with the newly released BD-R/RE format (BDMV).
    * Corrects the output signal status information for audio output and display when Linear PCM 5.1 channel soundtracks are played via HDMI."

    It would be interesting to test the new fw with BD-J discs such as POTC DMC. Particulary interested if the disc load time. If you have said disc you could maybe update the info in the sticky at the top of the BD player thread.

    Does this update work for the UK model (S1E I believe) as well, and if so, where can I get it please?

    Avi, Yes I agree. I've actually held off buying POTC because of this known issue. I may now give it a punt (unless someone else can test out the combo)?

    Frankly, I don't know. The firmware can be downloaded from the Sony US website (see below), but I would have thought Sony UK would make it available on disk? As the US player cannot play CDs it has to be burnt onto DVDs.

    I don't own the Sony BDP-S1, but I'm curious.

    Does this mean the Sony could NOT originally decode TrueHD and Dolby Digital plus? :eek:

    No, not originally. I imported mine from the US in December 06, when it was shipped with firmware version 1.3 (from memory). Since them there have been 4 updates, and the Dolby Tru HD etc were only introduced in the last one (v2.0).
