Please somebody help me before i throw my tv and soundbar through the window, I'm going mad trying to solve this. It's a very simple setup;

TV: SONY - BRAVIA KDL-55W805C
Soundbar: Yamaha YSP-1600

When I got the soundbar last week, I used HDMI arc from the TV to the soundbar and changed a couple of settings and bingo, it sent its audio to the soundbar (I just use TV apps like netflix). I only had to use the TV remote control to do everything, the tv remote volume would change the soundbar volume perfectly. No optical cable necessary.

Then I unplugged everything to install a better, surge protected gang lead. When i turned everything back on, the hdmi control of the soundbar had GONE. Unbelievable. I've played with every setting on both devices, changed the cable, factory reset my tv, unplugged and replugged. I'm about to start kicking things. I'd happy send a paypal payment to someone who gives me a solution! Please help :(.

I dont want to have to use optical because id need to use another remote control etc.

Just updated mine with the big update off of Sony's website. I have a 50" and it's connected via ARC to a Sony STRDN 860 receiver (I think). Just tried Amazon and Netflix both work fine with 5.1.

Maybe try this update for Android Marshmallow, worked fine for me.

Firmware update to v3.865 | Sony UK

Thanks. I downloaded the over 1gb file, unzipped and put the pkg file on a usb stick and the tv doesnt run it as an update, can they get nothing right? I just get a list of options and none help. Ive ordered ANOTHER hdmi cable to see if thats the issue. Fed up but wont give in.

If anyone knows how to set a Sony android tv for hdmi control please save me.

Did you put the unzipped file in the root of the USB stick?

I'm not sure what to say. I literally plugged the USB stick into the TV and it prompted me to update the TV straight away.

I have managed to get the update over the air so its done now. Still not got hdmi control, will try again when the new cable arrives. :(

Well.... ive tried everything, eventually I cracked it. EVERYONE needs to know this.... well...everyone trying and failing to get hdmi control to work and who is using a gang lead. Yes the power supply was the problem. It's known apparently with HDMI CEC, although not that widely known because nobody on a specialist av forum knew. You live and learn, I cannot tell you how many hours went into this and its a flippin extension lead, i tried 3 different gang leads and all failed to allow HDMI control, only a direct plugging in got things working, thanks for everyone who tried to help me.

Glad to see you finally cracked it Thud. ARC is a bit of a pain in the ass, I don't understand why it doesn't just work. I had problems with my Sony on certain apps and things. I'm really really hoping with HDMI 2.1 these problems will become a thing of the past and ARC will just work as we expect it to.

I suspect eARC (outlined under HDMI 2.1) is only going to be 'good' if all of your devices are eARC enabled - it is unlikely to be 'a fix' for the current version of ARC, though some devices may offer some partial fix through Firmware updates.
