Just took delivery of a Sony str870DB amp last wednesday which i wired up the fs2-av's to,every thing working great till the morning (sunday) i was watching tv at a low volume when the rear right speaker made a short popping sound and the amp went into 'protection mode'........i checked the speakers with another amp and they seem not to be affected.i turned amp off from the mains for a few hours to see if this would reset it but its still the same.....any ideas????????

"protection mode" is usually a wiring fault...

double check your connections at both the amp and sub ends...
must be something loose.. (amp end?)

if no joy, unplug the speakers one by one from the amp end,
till you get the Sony live again - you should find the problem (assuming its not hardware). reconnect the speakers back in one by one, doing a test tone at each stage. if it fails again, you've found the bad connection.

hmmm...not sure then... could be a fault on the amp maybe.

are you its the overload message you are getting, and not the "protect" message from something plugged in digitally (copy protection one)?

try switching the source to something analog just in case.

failing that, unplug any/ all digital sources (dvd, minidisc etc) to see if it makes a change.

so absolutely no speaker cables or digital sources plugged in then... and amp switch to something simple like CD or TV.

does sound like speaker/ overload circuit kicking in... it thinks there is a problem somewhere.
could be something has gone in the amp unfortunately. :(

any way to reset the amp... sure my old Sony had something similar?

I had this message on my 930. It was caused by speaker connections touching. Rewired the connections and has been fine since.
