Who cares... I'd buy it if there were no lenses.....

Only doubt would be that the size and design of the current A7r is just about perfect and sort of a work of art.... What I've seen of the A7ii its chunkier, heavier and not so modern.... bit like Jim really.... and I hope they dont replicate that in the 7rii

Just read the whole article and lots more lenses on the way and I've gone all moist.... I think my substantial donation to Jim's Hair Loss Crowd Funding is going somewhere else.......

Trust me the current a7 is far from perfect, handling isn't great. The a7rii uses the same chassis as the a7ii. I am intrigued by this camera but no way ill cough up 2500-3000 quid as thats the way it usully converts, then there's lenses, of which there's only 1 native I like.

Yeah, it's a lot of money but a lot of spec. Shame it's not an a77ii body with those internals and an A mount.

Seems like they are covering all bases or trying to.

That occurred to me as well as the A77ii is a nice handling camera...... makes you wonder if there is a conflict of direction in Sony.

A mount isn't a priority, it seems theyve completely confirmed that, its an adapted system. E mount priority with A mount users having to use adapters on E cameras only. But guess we'll have to wait and see if that changes.

.... says the guy who argues with the old boy selling poppies about the price.....;)

But its a colossal amount of money though. They are obviously not going for volume sales....

Not with a relatively weak lens line up. Says a mount via laea3 with phase but it's still not going to be dslr/t speed. They reckon 40% increase in a speed over a7r, if that's the case it's still going to be slow.

Notice the RX100 Mk4 announced as well.... heavy "focus" on 4k video it seems which I have less than zero interest in. But obviously Sony have a lot of TVs to sell....

I suppose at that price the extra cost of a LAEA3 adapter doesn't add that much to the price to get access to a decent lens lineup ;) (how's that for glass half full ? :p)

Looks good specs but that price, where do Sony come up with their prices?

Will AF be comparable to the A6000 this time?

I'm in no position to buy one but this is now Sony's flagship mirrorless body. The Nikon D4S and Canon 1DX are £4500 so Sony probably think the 7Rii is a bargain ;0)

It is overpriced for most photographers but I'm sure the Pros that use a 1DX or D4S would argue otherwise. My guess is that Sony want to pitch their top of the line mirrorless body in the same area (as in, "top of the line") so list it with an rrp of £3200 which is bound to drop over the next few months to below £3k.

To be fair to Sony, they've essentially started the decline in A mount because it makes no sense for one manufacturer to deliver two completely separate lines of bodies/lenses competing for the same market. They do however have their prosumer/consumer mirrorless lines in the A5000/A6000/A7000(?) bodies/lenses meaning that they can corner each end of the market which is something neither Canon nor Nikon can currently claim.

Both Canon and Nikon have a massive lead on lenses but they've also both been developing lenses for the F/EF mount for the last 30 years so Sony aren't doing that badly really :0)

Trying to ignore this camera because the ISO of he a7s still beats it and 12Mp has been fine so far.... But what I really want are the reasons I should 'upgrade' :)

Looks nice but price would put me off (+ very pricey lenses v the Nikon equivalents) - quite happy with my D750 for now!

That's the big killer for me the combination of lens price, lens range as well and camera. Very niche market..... And a minimum practical budget of £5k plus opens a whole new level of pro cameras. And although I love their stuff you are into serious DSLR pro stuff there for the real professional and Sony would find that a challenge with the 7rii. Or will they ?

I think the problem a lot of Sony users have is that theyve developed some cracking glass over the years which people have invested in heavily only to start again with a new mount and some unbalanced bodies with large lenses, then theyve realised perhaps theyve made a mistake trying to get to the smallest/most uncomfortable body and actually the heavier lenses (because of the nature of a FF sensor) dont work well so now they have a body thats almost the weight and size of a DSLR but doesnt have the benefits. Oh well, there goes the advantages of a CSC. So the trade off and experiment was that they lost any kind of AF performance, had to use an EVF, no ergonomics, no lenses, no battery life, any kind of robustness for what? A good sensor in a small body with big/few lenses and using customers as a test bed for their R&D.

Why do they have a lead on lenses? Because they (sensibly) keep the same mount!!

.... Im confident they will get there eventually and am glad they are pushing technology but its annoying that they make so many weird decisions along the way. Could learn a lot from Fuji.

You don't think technology can be well designed to be aesthetically pleasing then ?

Oh wait you have a Nikon..... Of course you don't :facepalm:
